    and then

You really need to learn when to swallow in order to prevent spitting and/or gagging...

        Oh dear, huge sympathies.

I have just had a recurrence of a prolapsed disc that occurred years ago - not something I would wish on anyone.

Your symptoms sound very similar to mine.

No miracle cure, surgery last resort and not necessarily effective.

Physio, diclofenac, exercise and watch what you're lifting in fufture are my only words of wisdom.

The sciatica that occurs afterwards can be even worse!

Hank...did my back a few years ago and pain was unbearable. Like you, I also couldn't get up (laid out ion floor with legs raised as per earlier suggestion). Needed a p1ss, but couldn't get up. Instead of helping, the missus tickled me. Result...I p1ssed myself. I got the last laugh though...the missus had to clear it up...made worse by the fact I also shat myself!!!!

It was about a week before I could walk properly again. As per earlier advice, strenghten the abs and loose the gut. I still get the odd spasm, but fingers crossed I don't go through that again.

agreed, this pain is so intense, had 7 teeth out in one op last year and it was a breeze.

Great story Flub, my mrs says there is no way she would assist with the latter

I concur. I couldn't walk more than 100 yards without having to stop and touch my toes in order to prevent leg from seizing up. It took about 6 months for this to resort to normal.

I now wish I hadn't ignored it and gone to the quacks straight away...

Have had back pain for a few days last week and the doctor advised the following:
              • If sleeping on your side, tuck your knees up against your chest.
              • If on back, put a pillow under your knees.
              • Take Nurofen for it's anti-inflammatory properties
              • DONT stretch, twist bend or lift with your back.
              • Adopt a correct posture while standing, sitting.
              • Place a wheat bag/hot water bottle on your lower back.
              • If you have any numbness in your arms/legs, this indicates a more serious problem and you should seek further medical advice.

Happened to me 2 weeks ago

                Hank,

This happened to me 4 weeks ago, back home from the contract with the girlfriend, spent the weekend, got up Monday morning and couldn't move. Could not get my clothes on, back stiff as anything. Had to stuggle for 3 weeks with painkillers every 4 hours, was in agnony. Found a heat rub good, and very very warm shower head against the back to ease it up.

I have an excellent sports therapist but haven't been able to get back and see him, it is still sore now, right at the bottom. A heat pact is also recommended, I seen an advertisement about 12 hrs of pain relief, think boots and the like do them.

                Good luck

Hank - this is the TENS machine that the physio might recommend:

                  http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/23069069/

Although it goes you a serious of warnings of where not to put it, it doesn't mention the todger. But let me assure you, it fecking hurts when you do.

And certainly don't do that when you're driving either.
If you think my attitude stinks, you should smell my fingers.
