With the benefit of hindsight , the Iraq invasion might have been a mistake
Trouble is, I don't think hindsight is actually needed. I remember a bloke in my local, who had spent some time out there, telling me just after it started that there would be conflicts between the Sunnis, Shias and Kurds if SH went and he was right. Anyone with a modicum of knowledge of the region, let alone a government with all the expertise available to it, would have known that was a very high risk.

This is not an isolated case of governments taking action which were obviously absurd, not with hindsight, but at the time. A common currency without proper controls or convergence of economies, supporting the "Arab Spring" in Libya when their tribal society was clearly not ready for democracy. Probably many other examples in history.

Going back to Corbyn. When did socialism ever work? Every communist/socialist regime has been a disaster. Low performing economies and corruption.

Lefties always seem to think that this time it will be different, tell us that those failures were not real socialism/communism. In theory maybe not but in practice they are what leftist policies always deliver due to human nature. Most people place themselves/their family/their own communities above mankind in general. If the results of their efforts are handed out to those with whom they have no connections they see less point in trying. If the most able cannot further their own ends in a free economy they will seek to do so within the state apparatus and corrupt it to suit themselves

As for the "principled" Corbyn, take a look at this article:

I’ve lived under Jeremy Corbyn’s rule – it turned me into a Tory

Turns Tories into Labour supporters as well... Tory caught signing up as Labour supporter wanted to expose vote 'farce' | Politics | The Guardian

I bet he had his little speech ready in advance as he knew he would be found out
Brexit is having a wee in the middle of the room at a house party because nobody is talking to you, and then complaining about the smell.

Perhaps my hero Adolph (yes, he is still alive!) should run for leader of the Tories. Loonies in charge of all the major parties would make elections much more interesting.

PS Not sure who should lead the Lib Dems. Animal from the Muppets maybe.

Whilst not technically socialist, Scandinavia IMHO is a more progressive unified and equal society. I know Norway has the oil, but Sweden doesn't, and it is a great country.

Somewhat lefter polices worked because they have, or had anyway, homogenous societies. People feel happier to share with those with who they feel a bond, with whom they have a common culture. That historic advantage in Sweden will disappear given its current lax immigration policy.

In fact much of that "strong socialist economy" may be a myth. Sweden had a strong economy because of an excellent work ethic but that has been declining since formation of the welfare state.

Cobblers. Because TB was leader when we invaded Iraq does not make him responsible for every death, everywhere, forever. Not even every death in the Middle East, which has been at war with itself, in some form, for all of my life (I'm 47) and probably will be for a long time to come. You have a lot of rich dictators packed together, it is virtually guaranteed they will be eternally at war, with or without our interference.

It doesn't help that we feed them weapons daily. If you want to help the Middle East, maybe refuse any contracts in defense related industries. Or go back to your bogey man narrative, whatever's easiest.
