Sofa giant DFS grows sales 7pc as it pushes into Netherlands
Furniture retailer DFS has announced a 7pc rise in sales in the past year, alongside plans to expand further in the Netherlands.
The sofa giant, which made its debut on the stock market in March with a valuation of around £543m, has been buoyed by a return in consumer confidence and the UK housing recovery.
Ian Filby, DFS chief executive, said that over the past 18 months there were signs that the UK sofa market was returning to pre-recession levels.
Mr Filby added that there were now "steady tailwinds" behind the company. Analysts expect there to be 3pc growth in the sofa market this year.
DFS, which has grown to become the UK's biggest sofa comany with 105 stores, said there had been“strong trading momentum” through the second half of the year.
DFS shares rose by the biggest amount since the company's listing, gaining 18p, or 6.7pc, to 284p on the back of the update.
