Same reason they do for Notting Hill Carnival (or any other event really) - potential for a good return on investment.

Have you been to a gay pride event? (I haven't - just curious to know whether you're basing your views on first hand experience.) I have several friends who go regularly - from the photos they aren't using sexually explicit imagery of any sort - just rainbow flags and fun.
Google Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco.

Not a pride event, not strictly a gay event but the SFO gay community is there in full force beating off in the street, engaging in public oral sex and various other delights.

Wondered why my Mrs always wanted to go there.

As I said, all in the name of harmless fun?

        No issues here.

I'd hardly call it harmless. I would imagine most people would find people engaging in public sex somewhat offensive, whatever the orientation of the participants.

Sounds like Newcastle on a Friday night, or Morpeth on nurses night.

Although in Morpeth it's not like it's any one specific sexual orientation.

Gosh - at the World's Biggest Leather Event, people engage in sexual activity.

              Who'd have thought it

Well, I'd say stay away if you're easily offended. Although not my cup of tea, just let them have some fun if they want; after all, life is very short.

Were it in an area restricted to consenting adults then you might have a point. This however is in a public street where people who do not wish to view it and minors could be present so they can keep it in their pants.

It's a fetishists fair, not a gay event. Nearly half a million fetishists from around the world turn up for various reasons and of all sorts of sexual orientation.

If you go to a fetishists fair, you pretty much have to expect that people might be engaging in "abnormal" behaviour (based on one's own perception of what is normal). But to quote Nietzsche - "And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music".

Folsom Street Fair has gates at the ends of the streets, so it's not like you can wander through accidentally.

If you don't want to see it, then don't go through the gates and "accidentally" join the thousands of BDSM and leather fetishists.
