My new years resolution was to cycle to the new salt mines - only 3 miles or so mainly along a cycle track which is un-metalled. Sort of compacted gravel and chippings.

Regular cheapy mountain bike.

I have had two punctures so far

Please advise how to stop this happening.

What is causing the punctures?

I used to cycle along beside some thorny hedges and fallen thorns kept puncturing my tyres. My bike shop just sprayed in some of that puncture repair stuff and it worked a treat: I'd get a thorn in the tyre, stop, pull it out, it would hiss for less than a second, and then I could ride on. Much of the time I didn't even need to pump it up later. Magic. And cheap.

1st one was a sharp shard of stone, 2nd was a thorn which punctured both sides of the tube.

(Don't ask me how I found that out but fix and hisssssssssssssss might have been involved )

Will get some gunk and/or a kevlar tyre next time I go past a suitable bicycle emporium.

No need to venture out - wiggle is as cheap as most places, deliver for free and give you free Haribo! What's not to like?

Muddy, I think I need to keep the seatbelts in the car. Does Kevlar really work now? I was never impressed with it in my proper cycling days.

What do Brillo or Dallas use - the properly mad cycling posters?

Dallas is a wimp. Only ever done a single IM. And now rows only.

Any puncture proof tyres are fine. JUst go to your local bike shop.

I never get involved in manual labour. If one is between butlers then best to get the bike shop to do it.
