No, it probably isn't. I mean, I know it's unlike you to ignore facts, common sense, etc in order to make political points... Even so, that's a bit low.
He wasn't being disrespectful, he was being honest when asked a question. Charlie Kennedy was a LibDem and therefore for Home Rule for the 4 home nations. He wouldn't be comfortable sharing a platform with the Tories as Labour did.

Crass and quite distasteful comments from an increasingly bitter Salmond.

Ex-BBC journalist Derek Bateman's view
There seems to be no end to the Unionists’ loathing for Alex Salmond. If ever a politician needed confirmation of his success (as if), the last SNP leader receives it daily from aggrieved opponents in the commentariat.
He stands accused today in lurid terms of appropriating Charlie Kennedy’s death for a partisan purpose. Here’s what Salmond said: ‘Yes, he was an extremely generous human being. I have had one or two, but not many, people who had a bad word to say about Charles, and that’s very rare in politics. In terms of the independence referendum, I don’t think his heart was in the ‘Better Together’ campaign. His heart would have been in a pro-European campaign, that’s a campaign that Charles would have engaged in heart and soul. That is something he absolutely believed in.’ See? No? Well, he is clearly implying Kennedy was a secret Nat. Isn’t he?

With respect, Mr Salmond has proved himself more than capable in the past of not answering a question that he didn't want to answer (it's the art of the Politician after all). He could have just not answered, and perhaps - with hindsight - would rather he hadn't.

I agree that Mr Salmond continues to come in for some considerable - some would suggest well deserved - ire from the rest of the UK political establishment. That's fine. The situation is different; He didn't die this morning.
Any opinion expressed here is just that - an opinion. It is my own view - unless I have (shamelessly) stolen someone your opinion in which case, I'm sorry (that you found out!)
Artificial Intelligence is no match for Natural Stupidity
Alex Salmond made a perfectly reasonable comment about Charles Kennedy and was correct in what he said about him and the better together campaign as referenced above in the Sunday Post article
