Labour banging on about zero-hours contracts ...

... when they're only 2.3% of total jobs - and may well suit some people who need a bit of pocket money.
Surely they should be looking at more important issues.

indeed they are - listening to the radio this morning and some guy was on saying that the Tory finance policies which have been approved by 100 top companies (or something) will be great for business

but not for the average man on the street - e.g. they will not be paid a living wage and will have to take zero hours contracts..

I do not think he meant the average man on the street he seemed to be implying that actually those that would loose out are the lazy and feckless and those that get of their arses and work hard will be rewarded.

    Seems ok to me.

Even if it were 0.001%, it's still no solution to turnaround a modern economy. It'll only entrench poverty. You mark my words.

Considering the Labour Party employs people on zero hours contracts they should STFU
Socialism is inseparably interwoven with totalitarianism and the abject worship of the state.

No Socialist Government conducting the entire life and industry of the country could afford to allow free, sharp, or violently-worded expressions of public discontent.

          ....

Mainstream press doesn't even understand the issues.

Waiting for the footy to start last night, I flicked through a part of BBC's The One Show. They had a piece on umbrellas and how construction co's are using them to force workers to pay their own Employer's NHI. The piece was quite well researched and showed the break down of how people are being conned but when it came to closing, they said 'don't worry though, the Chancellor is "cracking down on umbrellas" so it will all be ok soon'.

They didn't even understand what the Treasury are proposing and how it will not affect the issue they highlighted at all!

As the economy improves, they'll probably vanish.
Our cleaner, who comes through an agency, says she was on a zero hours contract which suited her, now the agency says she must work full time or not at all, which doesn't.
So it's not as clear cut as it seems.

Ed is calling them an "epidemic".

I can't see this election strategy working for Labour. With the constant flow of positive economic news I just don't think labour can hold the electorate's attention with another 38 days of warbling on about zero hour contracts.

I agree, however, offering À la carte labour delivers a clear message to employers 'use what you need; waste not want not' - that message will never drive investment. We need strong business with plans for the future. Not a nation of PPI switchboards.

Which is really not much different to Labour bloating out the civil service.
