Most weeks at other times of the year, I try to go one or two nights alcohol-free per week. That also helps with the calories!

I aim for 1800 cals per day so I've usually got a bit of leeway for a beer or three, and I don't mind overshooting to 2000.

There's a pub on the Mendips where I walked in after about 4 years and the landlord said, "Half of Butcombe, is it?"

I was away in Holland for about a year before walking into my local pub back home.

Their comment on not seeing me for so long was "We assumed you were working nights".

That was a truly dangerous pub. The bus stop was just outside the front door and going through the pub and out of the back door was a convenient short cut.

Naturally you had to stop for one drink out of courtesy...

Unfortunately one night I kept on winning at pool so that short cut took about 3 hours.
Behold the warranty -- the bold print giveth and the fine print taketh away.
