      A bonus of 15 to 30% would make a big difference (although this is quite rare and most of the time is just on paper and disappear for an unverifiable sudden change of circumstances - i.e. to give a bonus of almost 20k).

        AtW, you are again spouting tulipe, there is no legal right to Bank Holidays...

        In some cases, yes. There is no general legal right to time off on bank holidays, though it is a common practice to give time off.


        Many people have the right to bank holidays written into their contract with their employer, or fair alternative arrangements such as a paid day off in lieu or double pay for working on a public holiday.


        But if you don't have this, bad employers can ask you to work on public holidays, or make public holidays count as part of your 20 days' annual holiday entitlement as long as you are paid for them.

          Bonus is a carrot that you may never get. It maybe different for high level positions as people there may know better if they are gonna get it or not, but on reasonably lower levels bonus is just a mirage.

              We should have distinguished whether it's London or the Midlands for example, as 60k in London is not the same as 60k somewhere else in UK.

                I left a (almost) 100k job to go contracting -- not for the money but cuz I just couldn't work for that outfit any more. It was more of a lifestyle decision.

                No way would I go back permie unless I was offered a job with the following :-
                - within 20 minute commute
                - paying well too.... I'd probably be OK with 60k for a local job
                - 4 day working week / or option to work at home
                - don't have to work with women in my team (I know this sounds odd, but I work with 2 women and 10 days out of the month is taken up with their Period stress being taken out on me).

                    I agree with Taz, working with women is a nightmare as their behaviour is always unpredictable. Send them back to the kitchens and bedrooms !!!

                      Would definitely go permie..but the location would have to be right. I only commute now as I can expense it.
