You wouldnt 'retire yourself' if your outgoings were huge, so the whole 'kids/mortgage' etc argument is out the window. And take your bitterness about your own bills with you - that noise is not required here.

If you structure your income by day-to-day and adhoc repair/replacement type stuff I think I'd have trouble spending a whole 300 a week.

300 pound a week is for living. No mortgage-paid off.

Working from home is overrated. I've done it for a year. I like structured working - discipline is good for me.

I wouldn't be sitting around at home. I can't trust myself. I'm a binger, especially when I'm bored or nervous. I have plans of rewarding things to do.

I have no family. I figure if I do have a family later, I will liquidate some assets to provide cash - and go back to work for a bit (to set an example to kids really) - albeit in a lower paid regard.

I want to retire at 55, that is what I am gearing things up for, however I can't predict how ThenGov will screw up my plans, so realistically I will start to wind down from late 40's and look to be 6 months on / 6 months off and never really retire until later life once the kids have been put through university etc etc.

This is all dependant on keeping contracting, if that goes tits up and I need to get a real job things will obviously change again!

lots of people live on that sort of amount happily if they have no rent or mortgage.

Thought about it to, working keeps me out of trouble though I feel too much free time on my hands would not turn out well.
I like big butts and I cannot lie.

But even though I don't enjoy the work anymore- I can't bin this gig - it's like I'm cutting off my own hand. After having played the game for a long time, I find my brain won't let me stop.

Will you be dragged off site in a body bag? Or, have you got a figure in mind?(I keep moving that figure..)
What exactly are you going to do for the next 50 years?
Let us not forget EU open doors immigration benefits IT contractors more than anyone

Work. I don't plan on stopping working-but not career jobs. Just bits and pieces. Maybe drive the odd car from the UK to Europe, for delivery.

Build a boat with my Dad. Work doesn't have to be paid.

Grow my own veg and join local produce "swapsies" communities.

I would like to give careers advice to young people - something I never got.

Metalwork - I'm going to teach myself welding and make cool outdoor tables to sell at a local market. To pass the time.

Music - I'm dabbling in making ambient dance music - id put more time into that.

Research - I want to trace my family tree. I also want to master some maths topics that I left behind at Uni.

                      Triathlons.

                      Play chess - I'm a keen player.

Go round the UK- many many places I have not visited, despite having been around the world.

I won't be sitting at home. Every time I leave the office I'm buzzing. I like being out amongst people. Everybody has a story to tell.
