Getting into contracting whilst in a permenant job.

Just lie to the recruiter, claim 1 week notice as they are looking to reduce numbers. When you get offered the contract go and talk to current employer, if you cant negotiate to leave quickly, just leave anyway and go to the contract, what are they going to do ?
oh - don't expect a christmas card or to go back there ever...
