    He's not comparing the elections at all, he is simply drawing attention to the fact that people are queuing up to register to vote, the only other time he has seen that was in South Africa. Don't let the truth get in the way of a good dose of bile though. Keep it coming, it's all helping. It's not Salmond who's doing the running here, all he needs to do is sit back and let the patronising bollox from the establishment drive the voters to him.

      However he spins it he is trying to sneakily manipulate people into likening the independence movement to the overthrow of Apartheid. He wants to make people think (on some level) that it is a fight between the oppressed and the downtrodden.

      Unfortunately it backfired on him
      A very long time ago, Salmond tried to make political mileage out of a fishing boat sinking with all hands*; he claimed that it was Westminster that was preventing the raising of the vessel in order to conduct a full investigation... At the time, no one else would have suggested trying to raise a sunken boat. The man's an utter ****... Or *political opportunist* if one wants to be kind.




      * Clearly opinion, but that's my recollection of the disgust that I felt at the time.
