Well it seems that Wee Snake-Oil Salmond has had phenomenal success in getting most of the easily-led punters coralled at the top of the cliff, stoically waiting for his order to jump.
The sort of folk that, when faced with the difficulty of trying to do a rational analysis of such figures as were available, opted to take his uncosted guff at face value.
It is one thing to play the emotive overly-romanticised braveheart card to underpin one’s case, but when that facet takes centre stage it is beyond dangerous.
There is not a civilised country in the world that does not desire a “fairer, caring, morally upstanding government” for all of its people. But when such claims come without any tangible evidence that such a society can be appropriately funded then it is just so much piss and wind.
Worse than that, when anyone questions his figures (or lack thereof) it is routinely dismissed out of hand as scaremongering, or the work of those nasty Ingerlish toffs in Westminster, generally topped off with some irrelevant comment that they are (although there is usually no evidence to support this!) insulting the intelligence of the Scottish people. Aye, he is never backwards at coming forwards with his racist agenda.
Thankfully however, once it has been taken into account that these core voters of the lemming variety are hell bent on voting YES irrespective of what arguments may be put to them, we have to turn our attention to the remaining electorate.
These are, it seems, those who are more inclined to avoid taking unnecessary risks as they have probably put a bit more thought into their analysis.
And it seems that the appeal of the camp that constantly asserts that, in any future negotiations they will get all that they want, and stubbornly refuses to brook any form of scepticism, is on the wane.
On friday morning I fully expect to awake to the news that the forces of sanity have prevailed in Scotland, and that Salmond has begun drawing up plans to disappear back into the political wilderness taking with him his ragtag band of reckless and feckless, naive and nasty eejits with him.
