Tiny black flies

I'm surrounded by tiny black flies.

They're so small I'm beginning to wonder if they're real.

Or rather, I would wonder if I hadn't been successful in killing a shedload of them.

I wonder what they are.

Are you sitting near to something that's gone off?? If so they're probably fruit flies. If not you are probably hallucinating

They are Thrips (thunderflies) and always seem to get behind my screen!

Could well be the oranges - if they're fruit flies they will aim for your ears and nostrils and find said orifices with unerring accuracy - irritating little swines

Sounds like it, and as their name suggests they're a sure sign of a thunderstorm on the way.

Little sods are everywhere.

I'm not sure they're not emerging from the compost around a miniature rose.

They could be.

I've had some plants that were infected with small black flies.

Then when I checked it was the compost they were potted in.

You are going to need to throw the oranges out and put the miniature rose outside for a bit.

They are not black flies. They are flies of colour

Maybe that's how it reproduces.
