I found it fascinating when I was in Maastricht that the local dialect was a Plat/French concoction.
Also, the German for please bears no resemblance to s'il vous plait. But the Dutch, alstublieft does.
So imagine my delight when researching this dish that the Germans have a Plat word Erdapfel (earth apple) that more closely resembles pomme de terre than the more traditional Kartoffeln.Knock first as I might be balancing my chakras.Comment
