Try telling your plumber halfway though his job you re cutting the agreed rate by 10%, it's a dodgy move and you should reject it or accept and lower your hours by 10% and also look elsewhere.

Or try telling a big four firm the same.

        Yep.

Seems the general mood is to take it and look for something else.

          Not from me it isn't.

Happened to me once and walked immediately. That's just me though. I won't do a rate cut. (I was also back on the same site, six weeks later on a higher rate)

Things are different for you as you don't have long to go.

Everyone has their own way of dealing with these things. Choose your path and don't look back regardless

As irritating as this obviously is on a personal level, the best decisions are unemotional. If you feel you can rapidly acquire a new contract on a better rate, do that. Otherwise, accept the cut and move on. Given the frequency with which these cuts occur, it basically needs to be factored upfront, at some level, when accepting a bank contract.

Depending on the situation I might offer to work 4 days a week on the same rate, to let them reduce their costs.

Logically I would say sit it out and take the cut while looking for something else.

In reality I would probably walk.

No so long as you can survive some bench time, telling them to stick it is the best choice. I've turned down the last 2 rate cuts and been kept on at the same rate. If offered one today I'd do the same again, enjoy the summer if it ended and be ready for the September boom.

Nice list, when you negotiate your rate with these companies always add 15% to your rate, if they ask why point them to that site.
