about rates and stuff

Another thread reminded me...
During extension process recently I saw in an email chain that my hiring manager, who interviewed me (with a techie too) and presumably decided to hire me, doesn't know what rate I'm on. He was referring to what they pay the agency too, as it was in reference to leaving the rate part of their paperwork blank when signing off his part of the approval.

So how does that work?

Works like normal, client company's contract is with the agency, how would they know what's in your confidential contract with the agent.

I meant that the hiring manager doesn't know what rate they're paying, for budgeting reasons.

They pay Agency £X per day. Agency pay you £X - £Y per day.

This is how it generally works. So his budget for you is the top figure they pay the agency, £X per day.

Now, both you and the he may be surprised if you found out the difference between what the agency get and what they pay you, but that's a different question. It's also usually covered in the agenct contract with you and their contract with client co that the figures must not be discussed for that very reason.

And of course you all agreed at the start to the figures. Finding out about a huge difference can still be pretty annoying though.
