Serviced apartments are a good thing if you can find them. A while back, I negotiated with a place in Edinburgh that I paid £400 a month for Monday to Friday each week, which was in Leith overlooking Brittania.

I actually prefer those - it means that I don't have to socialise with the owners (I'm strange that way). I just make sure that they put a TV in the bedroom and allow me to share their wi-fi.Originally posted by SueEllen View PostThere are those who put in stupid rules i.e you can't use the living room but those should be avoided
The kitchen/dining room is common ground and I can happily disappear to my room once I've eaten..."I can put any old tat in my sig, put quotes around it and attribute to someone of whom I've heard, to make it sound true."

Used holidaylettings.co.uk in the past. You can get accom for just one night at a time here if you like.
Used them in the past. Had a cracking little flat on the outskirts of cheltenham for a few nights. Cost about £55 a night if I remember so about the same price as the travelodge anyway.
Small kitchen, settee, tv, dvd. Excellent it was.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

Sharing not me for me either. Possibly because Im a miserable git and once I'm out of the office cant be arsed to make small talk.Originally posted by Chervil View PostAparthotels... Interesting concept. I will look into CAS too.
I have to say that the idea of a house/flat share is a bit off putting. I'm probably being too snobby.
Also, dont want to wake up one night with a big sweaty fella called Dave trying to get into my bed.Rhyddid i lofnod psychocandy!!!!Comment

I don't like house share either. I did it for a few months when I started out in contracting.Originally posted by Chervil View PostAparthotels... Interesting concept. I will look into CAS too.

The couple who I lived with were polite enough, but the idea of living in someone elses house with them in it just drove me around the bend.
I've prefered B&B/short term rentals ever since.
WRT rentals, you can sometimes get lucky and find a landlord/agent that will offer 1 month notice period - very rare though. All depends what the demand for rentals is like in the area you're looking at.Contracting: more of the money, less of the sh1tComment

Last time I did it, it was more like a better student house - I had an en-suite and then shared kitchen and lounge with internet and TV and all bills included.Originally posted by Chervil View PostAparthotels... Interesting concept. I will look into CAS too.

I was by far the oldest person in the house - everyone else seemed to be in their first jobs out of university, but it was a good laugh.Comment

At the time, they were still renovating / building Leith up so there were loads of empty flats that had been completed but no-one wanted to buy any of them because they were still essentially in the middle of a building site.Originally posted by Stevie Wonder BoyThrough the Fringe? If so, that is an amazing deal!
I had to move out on a Friday and back in on a Monday, but some weeks I was in a two-floor penthouse, which was nice. Quite often I had to log into the wifi router using the default password that had never been changed, and limit the connection speeds of some people so I got a decent connection as well
