Hi I'm after some advice. I'm new to contracting so go easy on me. I potentially have a contract offer in Zurich with a rate of 750 CHF per day agreed. It's a long term contract ( 24 months + so I'm told ). Is 750 CHF per day reasonable or should I try to agree more? Also are there any basic do's and don't to contracting in Switzerland ?

That works out to around 500 GBP per day? That seems low to me.Originally posted by keenog View PostHi I'm after some advice. I'm new to contracting so go easy on me. All depends on your circumstances I suppose?
Are you single, skint and on the bench? Then why not.
If you have a house to run in the uk and will be commuting back and forth, then I would say no.
Don't believe the agent waffle about length of contract, a 'flexible' resource can and will be dumped if budgets change. -

It all depends on your circumstances and also what type of life you want to live while you're there, when I was contracting in Zurich I had to go via a Swiss payroll company that took £600 a month just for processing my pay and tax etc. You also have to have private medical insurance while you're out there too but overall it's not a bad place to be, competition for accommodation is quite high and rents can be quite high depending on where you want to live. Public transport out there is faultless and it's pretty easy to fly back and forth to the UK.In Scooter we trust

Seems low, Switzerland in general and Zurich specifically are EXPENSIVE.Never has a man been heard to say on his death bed that he wishes he'd spent more time in the office.Comment

Scrag Meister is right it is really expensive, I spent 13-14 months out there living like an immigrant but I came back with a nice sum of money so it depends on what you're hoping for in terms of living out there. In Scooter we trust

Switzerland contract
Thanks all. I don't lead an extravagant lifestyle and I am very budget savvy. I don't plan on drinking and eating out every night. My plan is to work and earn as much as possible as well as do some sight seeing if possible. I have a wife and 2 yr old to support so they are my priority. My sums work out as me having a good few K left after uk and zurich bills. I think my sums mean I could do it but I must admit some posts iv read about living costs are putting doubts in my headLast edited by keenog; 14 April 2014, 07:55.Comment

Personally, I wouldn't even consider a role at CHF750. I think that before accepting the contract, you need to do some homework? You will be paying their equivalent of NI / PAYE and this can be at nearly double the standard social security/state pension rates, for the first two years, since you are a first time worker in Switzerland....
Consult with the "agencies adviser" who should be able to give you an earnings break down, based on the day rate ie an improvised payslip.I was an IPSE Consultative Council Member, until the BoD abolished it. I am not an IPSE Member, since they have no longer have any relevance to me, as an IT Contractor. Read my lips...I recommend QDOS for ALL your Insurance requirements (Contact me for a referral code).Comment

Contract is only as long as the day you arrive, contractor rule number one...Originally posted by keenog View PostRate verbally discussed so far is 750 CHF per day . Contract for 2 yrs reviewable every 6 months with potential for increase
And it is expensive, a friend of mine still has a pic of an £18 Jacket Potato he bought.
Also as I understand it as an effective employee of the payroll company all flights etc come out of your own pocket....Comment
