when will rates rise

I keep reading about rate rises..so far all I see are permanent salary rises...some very tempting actually...but no contract rate increases...I'm still working below the poverty level here...Mind you, Lancashire is nothing but poverty.

Depends on supply and demand ! I'm working in Lancs after years in big cities and I'm surprised we don't get screwed down even more by the clients. In my skill I'd say they could get people for 30-40% less than in the SE if the clients played hard.

Chatting to permies ( various MS skills ) they reckon permie salaries are still quite a bit lower than 5 years ago in Lancs area. I sure sign there ate too many people around.

Perhaps with various sections of the government shifting up to M'str there may be more work up here. BUt for now, I am watching my pennies very closely.

I'm already charging rock bottom rates, can't imagine being any lower. I am shocked at the low rates of the south sometimes. So can't imagine charging any less, I would be better off permanent then..as my entire revenue would drop below that of a permie.

When will rates rise? When you decide to put your rates up. If you're just sitting around waiting for customers to pay you more money out of the goodness of their hearts, you will be waiting a long time.
