    New to contracting

I've been contracting on M&E projects for about a year. I finished up late December last year but am struggling to see any new projects into January. I am told it can be quiet this time of year. I was interested to know how long these "quiet spots" last. I am itching to get back into the swing of things.

New projects need new budgets. New budgets come in April. If you are a PM I'd say you could have to wait until then. If you are a skilled worker then you might get in sooner.

Very much market conditions vary year on year and sector, and most folks on here are IT.

If you've been in contract for a decent stint you should have a warchest to be able to wait it out. If you've spunked the warchest on fast women then you might just have learned the value of a warchest.

What's wrong with fast women? I realised most on here were IT actually, just thought I may get a few responses from electrical. But you are right about new budgets in April, it makes sense really. I would say I consider myself skilled but haven't contracted to large companies up until about a year ago. In the past I have taken private work early on in the year so not needed a war chest as such. Luckily I do have some money to back me up, just not as much as I would like. It was a question more out of interest than necessity really, but thanks for the reply.
