Agency suspicion

I am now searching for my first contract and applied for a few on jobserve. Anyone heard of 9-20 recruitment agency? Also the agent wants to meet me first, is this normal? or can I expect waste of time,pumped for leads type thing?

It's not normal for agent to want to meet you first, but nor is it unheard of. Sometimes it is just to pump you for sales leads sometimes it is a agent wanting to make sure you are not a complete unprofessional toss head before you sending you to meet client

Actually thinking about totally possible is the latter as when i first started contracting more agents wanted to meet me before I met the client, now years since had one request it (as unlikely to have lasted this long if i was not "professional")

Also would say that it would depends what level you operate at, not much of an issue if they screw up with a programmer, but if they send in someone to totally unsuitable to meet the upper management for say a PM job.....well they are highly unlikely to get contracts of any type from that company again

One thing though, unless they are considering you for a particular position/contract don't bother meeting them as that most definatly is a fishing trip
