    Credit check before interview

Agent wants to submit my cv for a role. Agent says that I have to authorise a credit check before he sends my cv off on the basis that client will run credit check before interview.

I say no - client can run credit check if I'm successful at interview. Not before. Agent doesn't like this so I say feck it and pull the plug. Agent is not happy.

I don't like credit checks - just having them done can affect your credit score & I'm just not having it until I have a firm offer. I've had this twice recently. Anyone else?

Michael Bailey Associates wanted me to give them a load of personal information before they would even submit my C.V. to Amadeus:

"Please advise, Nationality/Visa Status + provide copy of Visa/passport scanned via email

Please advise, do you hold any CCJ's

·Please advise, have you ever been disqualified as a company director

·Please advise, have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence which is not spent under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974

·Please advise, if have you worked for Amadeus before either directly or through a third party company? *If yes please advise who.

·Please advise, if you have applied for a position at Amadeus in the last 12mths, if so what was position, did you interview, if so who with and what was the out coming?

·Please provide two points of reference prior to interview – This is inline with are SLA’S/ ISO 9000 Certification."

I told them to F*** Off.

Are you sure it has a negative impact on your credit score - I thought there were types of searches that could be performed (something like an LSAR) which are searches against your credit profile detailing your score, ccj's, missed payments and the likes but as they're not being performed in relation to a request for credit they don't impact negatively against your credit score.

A whole bunch of credit card and/or loan credit application searches performed in a short space of time can have a negative impact on a person's rating.

I don't think the basic credit check (the same check used by letting agents, Powerchex etc) has any impact on credit score because all the check highlights is details on DMPs, CCJs, Bankruptcy etc. the people running the check cannot see missed payments, defaults on loans and/or credit cards nor can they see a person's overall debt load. Therefore, the search is not based on an application for credit so that would mean no impact on one's rating.

However, I'd speculate most financial clients would want to carry out a basic credit check before wasting interview time on a person who is a bankrupt, has CCJs etc.

If the client was offering to do the check then no probs, but an agent wanting to do the check can go frack off!

You should be getting a credit check on them, not the other way round IMHO. They're the customer.

Sign up for Experian's free 30 day service, generate a copy of your credit file and send it to them, that way at least you get to see if first and you can check there's nothing strange on it, and this should not affect your score

With 40% of the PM's/BA's I offered contracts to last year failing the credit check hence having offer withdrawn and forcing us to re- interview (3/4/5 weeks down the line) I welcome this new approach, In fact if its RBS your interviewing for this It might have been my idea. People that fail credit checks are a complete waste of time for everyone.

** disclaimer – I don’t agree with the criteria the banks use for pass/fail (£500 default by ex-wife on her phone bill stops you getting a contract example from last year) – But that’s not my battle

I'm slightly confused as to why you're bothered whether or not a supplier passes a credit check.
Do you also run credit checks against the sales reps / delivery drivers / directors at your stationery suppliers and refuse to deal with any who fail?
Or do you believe that if they fail a credit check then they're going to start siphoning money off from the bank?

As someone said before, you are the client - the supplier is relying on you paying them. Should we look at the credit history of the client company, whether they have large debts owed, have defaulted in the past 5 years, etc...?

By doing that he would be handing over his entire financial history including previous addresses, open/closed balances and credit applications.

The credit check a 3rd party does is just a basic check which shows stuff like CCJs, Backruptcy, DMP etc.
