I generally run a mile from people like this.

I like agile and process improvement, but there is nothing worse than having someone who is overly focussed on it hanging around, especially if they have management responsibility for you.

Exactly. Especially those kind of people who think that they have successfully implemented agile in many workplaces and come to think of themselves as an evangelist. Talk about modesty

I worked for a small digital media agency in Cardiff for about 3 months as a permie I absolutely hated it there, the development manager adopted Agile and now he's one of these Agile Evangelists funny thing is he speaks through his rear and now he's even published a white paper on it and he's only done for 15 months what a

Funny part is that ultimately to get the project completed on time and with high quality you just need a solid developer who can code. If the guy is good he will adapt instantly to any kind of project management tool, Agile or water flow or scrum or any other. What is the point in hiring a bulltulip merchant who knows a thing or two about Agile but is pretty useless in writing solid code ?

Totally agree on this one. I still feel that development of any kind, is probably one of the most underrated roles in the SDLC. No matter how good "processes" you have, if you don't have someone who can bring that to reality with proper coding and implementation, it ain't worth a jack. It's fun to see all these Agile specialists singing your praises when you properly implement something, only to turn red in their face, when they are under the cosh from business for unreasonable expectations. Real managers seldom buckle under pressure, and they do not need any fancy buzzwords to do their job. There are still a few of those around I am sure, but it's difficult to spot them in the herd of these Agile twits flipping their you-know-what.

I may be old-fashioned but I still don't think you can beat a good plan and some good guys to execute it.

I like a bit of JAD for user-facing deliverables as it helps cut out major issue before UAT. And once upon a time I was a RUP Practitioner.....but ultimately, I don't think you can beat planning out what you are going to do and letting the guys get on with it.

At my last client one project had adopted an agile approach. Result, up to 20 people standing around a whiteboard on a daily basis for anything up to an hour a team. And the basic reason for this:no-one in either the client or off-shore team was capable of producing a plan.

Think I'd have ****ed off as soon as he said 'let's do a little role play........' Either that or I'd have brought out a big %#^! off thermometer and said 'OK, bend over. You wont feel this going in, I promise'!
