If they sort out renewal early, get contractor signed up then theres no chance of them looking around for something else.

Have you thought they might have no intention of renewing you?

Perhaps they don't want to show their hand in fear of you leaving before the well defined deliverable you are currently working on is complete.

    Just sayin.

Possibly. If so they've done it wrong then because the stuff Im working on is being done on monday which is too late.

Unprofessional IMHO if thats the case. Like I said, if I intended not to renew I'd consider it a courtesy to inform client a few weeks before and not just disappear one friday pm never to return.

No problem with dropping hints when trying to fish for an extension but expecting courtesy is a touch naive I would suggest.

Out of interest, do you mind if I ask how many contracts you have had?

I am in same situation - last day tomorrow, huge external deadline end of October.

All parties verbally nodding renewal and pulling me into various meetings/ongoing stuff etc.

Advised them all without signed paperwork I wont be in - mild shock from Agent (really).

Looking forward to Monday off, will see what they can pull out of the bag for Tuesday, currently on calls to agents daily and peeking into warchest - phew, its still there!

Hate daytime tv though so may have to go into Plan B and see what happens.

Tis the life of a contractor matey

Why is it too much to expect?

No of contracts - probably 7-8 off and on contracting for 15 years.

              ****** annoying though!

Looks like I may have to go down the not in monday route if it comes to it to at least prove a point. BUT its a day less billed - and sort of a forced day off.

                Not necessarily,

because you are a sooper dooper independent professional you are available to join calls and 'try to maintain continuity despite the current situation'.

If you are on a day rate - thats your date rate paid (mate ...... couldnt resist) a human conversation pre monday can ensure this. Although billing wise perhaps this will showup on a weekend day or public holiday within your new contract dates.

Client Co: this guy really cares .....

Hmmm. Yes, it would be nice to not let if affect things.

BUT I've had this conversation a few times in the last few weeks and nothing has been done. At the end of the day, I've mentioned it enough times and they could have pulled their finger out and sorted this.

Part of me is thinking it might be nice for them to experience some hassle by me not being able to do the planned work on monday. Might focus attention for next time. If I make it too easy for them again this time, they're never going to change....

I certainly wouldn't be going in on Monday unless you've got the extension agreed. With nothing even verbally offered I don't see you'd have a leg to stand on if they then refused to pay you for any days you work outside of a formal agreement.

At this point all you can do is send an urgent email to all parties concerned (client contacts, agency etc) stating that your contract ends Friday and until an extension is agreed you won't be able to do any further work.

Yes it's a potential lost day's earnings, but without the extension you could end up not getting paid anyway so why turn up for free?

Hmmm. One months extension agreed. Not great.
