If you really are set on not working in banking, then just say you've been bankrupt/have a few CCJ's or something... I'm sure the application will soon be withdrawn and they won't bother you again. -

I had a guy from Harvey Nash do this, and you know what, I went to the interview and won it.
The next day when I turned it down, he got his boss to call me and shout very loudly about how much of a (worst swearword ever) I was for wasting everyones time....
