Finding contracts - phone and networking??

    Hi All,

Several job-hunting books outline a few rather complex networking strategies to find employment ... however, the guides on contracting I read normally concentrate on the job-posting-by-agency or CV-upload-website side of things.

    - Has anybody of you found contracts in ways other than responding to agency ads, or prospectively sending them your CV?
    - Network events?
    - Do you call companies directly, without using an agent?

Another question: What is your average daily number of applications you send out while you're looking?

    Thank you so much Experts!

Agents contact me fairly often with roles. Current role, the client asked for someone with my skills, agent rang me and asked if I was available. Interviewed with client and started a week later.

No idea - some days there are none, some days there are quite a few. Even in my longest bench time, I wasn't sending off for everything - I think that it was probably something like 40-50 roles over seven months. I tend not to look too hard, even if I'm not working.
