They will remove you if you send them a nice letter recorded signed for letter under the Data Protection Act pointing out due to the fast moving nature of the IT industry that data they hold on you is inaccurate and out of date and so has been kept for longer than neccessary, and they should remove your CV details and not contact you any more. Also add if they contact you again you will report them to the Information Commissioner. Linky

File the recorded signed for slip somewhere and if they contact you again complain to the Information Commissioner. A letter from them may make them buck up their ideas about not being able to remove people of their CV database.

BTW I don't tend to get many phone calls from agencies they just spam my many emails accounts with their incorrectly targeted "opportunities". I have felt sorry from some agents who have called me who clearly don't understand what they are seling but none from the Arrows Group.

Good idea! I am not going to pay for a letter - but the next time I get a call I am going to tell them that lot.

      Cheers

I refuse to even spend the money on a piece of paper! I will wait until they call me again.

It's nice to have a rant at them but you may as well talk to a brick wall because they don't give a tulip. They will just hang up and go on to the next call. If you get mad at them they will just deny they had the conversation.

Send the letter to the "data protection manager" at the agency and you should get a result...

Perhaps this is easier to understand if you've had some of the data flow explained.....

What I'd suggest is that you've ended up speaking to a very naive agent - who doesn't really understand the data flow and has just seen one side of things.

Typically (admittedly not always) a recruitment firm will operate two data systems. A database...which is normally a relational system, which has been developed as a generic recruitment tool. And an automatic data entry system. This system is typically called Daxtra, but there are others which do roughly the same thing. Daxtra effectively takes every application and inputs it into the database. It can also be set to input every CV the agent looks at - good or bad.

You see, if you delete a record, then there's a very high probability that in the following few days, that record will re-generate with a different reference number, and you'll think that you're being stalked!

Typically, you cannot "Delete" a record from a recruitment database, however, you can hide it and make it unavailable, which serves the same purpose.

The point of this? Well Daxtra also has a clever litle system which recognises duplicate data - so the second it sees your name it will check it against others in the DB, and then will look at the address and so on. If it sees that there's already a record, it will update the CV - if there's no record, it will create one.

Records of course, can be deleted with the right authority, but it's wise to ask them to note not to call you, and ask for telephone numbers to be deleted from the records - deleting your record won't stop you from re-appearing!

That is very useful - cheers.

The thing is, it is equally annoying for the agent as for the person who receives the call.
