      The days of weekly payment are really numbered IMHO. Every business is feeling the pinch, end clients are maximising their payment terms with the agents and it is to be expected that agents will try to do the same with contractors. 30 day terms are becomeing the norm and monthly invoicing is not far behind. Get yourself cover for agency default from PCG which helps minimise the risk.

          I don't blame you. It's not a crime to be new to contracting.

          Furthermore it was not unreasonable for you to assume that this is an edge case, because in a well-regulated business environment this would not be something to worry about.

          However, in terms of what agents are allowed to get away with, it is really the Wild West out there and getting worse. Contractors should be reacting by tightening, not loosening, payment terms.

            I have told them I would be happy to keep with a the weekly pay schedule. They replied and said that they will check with their accounts department as that is who is pushing for the change.

              so what if they are - its a change to contract T&Cs, which you do not have to accept. They may terminate, but that's unlikely if you are on site with a happy client. This has no effect on the client, so they will not be supportive of you going due to a dispute with the agency. Tell them to poke it.

                All this 'I would be happy to stay with weekly' won't do. Get them bloody told man. if you let an agency tulip on you, they'll do it again....and again......and again....

                      Strongly suggest the OP "Uses Search" (sorry, NLUK ) and reads up on those cases where contractors have been well and truly left out-of-pocket (and the grim years of court battles trying to get any of it back...)
