No, you are right. I have sent my CV responding to their job ads. But no answer. I guess they are collecting CV.

Yeah that is true. I will say one good thing - I lost a job a few years ago thanks to my boss declaring his undying gay love for me and they got me a permanent job with the same cash in about a week.

Apart from that, they've been utter w*nkers.

Never fill in a cover sheet - send in your CV and call them to make sure they've got it - then you can decide if it's a waste of time or not.

Well he phone me up whilst drunk on half a bottle of vodka, declared his love for me and what I assume was fell off his chair. I emailed my resignation and ebayed all the company equipment I had that was lying around at home to cover the lack of pay cheques over the previous month.

Never heard from him again other than to phone him up and get a quote for his hourly rate so I could wipe him off the planet.

No you're not over-reacting. And talking of "standard procedure", mine is to ignore the feckers. Email straight in the bin, phone messages ignored etc. I find life just that little easier that way. Oh, and it's Hoaxley, just in case no-one else has mentioned it.
