    NHS and Telecoms Contractors

How are independent contractors finding this market for BA and PM positions... I am coming across more and more consultancies becoming present i.e. Serco, Capita, Detica, Accenture.

I have been in this area for a while and I like it but I am tired of contractors thinking the "contractor dream" is in finance...

as the saying goes.. greed kills - I have seen it too many times. I prob could get £100 more per day in London but I think I'd spend that either on additional costs i.e. rent/train/lunches/drinks!

I could be because of the grammar in your post; it is somewhat confusing.

well it does seem that your post is confusing. I mean you ask how the market is in your specialism (sorry, no idea), mention consultancies (they are moving in all sectors now imo) then go on about the finance sector.

I dont see about how your sector and contractors thinking the 'dream' is in finance is connected. What do you mean, all the contractors in your sector are leaving for finance and more money? If so, doesnt that tell you something?

I agree, I dont see the point in a 300+ mile round commute to London, having a shortened weekend, increased living away costs for another 100 quid a day tops. I dont want that hassle and as I live in a cheaper part of the country, dont chase the London dollar like others.

For the last 7 or 8 years I have been in financials but, the squeeze is always felt here first. Im aware Citi Group are implementing a 10% across the board rate cut now. I'll be very surprised if barclays et all dont follow suit.

Im out of financials for the time being and currently working in a security cleared environment. Oh, and I didnt need to have the clearance when I started the job and didnt get a load of bollox some agencies put out there that if you dont have current clearance, you wont be considered.

Just proves what I've always thought, the agents that do are a bunch of effing liars.

Never mind - just had my first ever linkedin interview request from a company. Going to see what they have to offer.
