Well come on - someone sends an email with an upfront, honest request for information, and immediately someone suggests that they're being dishonest and wouldn't do what they say they're going to do. Alright - we're agents and there is a minority who are underhand and dishonest, but does people saying that all agents are dishonest, REALLY help the industry improve, especially when there are newcomers and newbie contractors about??

You should have said that in your first post.

The email is fair enough, it's the small matter of getting paid that I have doubts about. How would we even know if they placed someone or not? They could just deny it, or claim they already had the client on their books. It's far too vague which is why I never bother with any of these things.

            I agree with you.

From the three occasions one that included me where leads have been given the person giving the lead got nothing. In two of the occasions the company concerned openly admitted that's where they got the lead.

Also in this case the pimp has no relationship with me what so ever as I've never had a contract or a whiff of one through them.

Which is why, if you have a lead, and you want something for it, you should agree it with the agent up front. Granted, some kind of thank you should be made as a gesture of general human goodwill, but not doing so, does not make the agent a villain, just someone who doesn't understand the Quid Pro Quo relationship.

This is completely different, the referral rate for placed business is there in black and white. It might not stand up in court, but you can at least argue with them that they secured information under false pretenses.....
