    From ltd company to umbrella

Till about 4 years ago I did a number of contracts through my limited company.

Then I did various gigs abroad which necessitated going through payroll schemes, so I rendered the company dormant and then shut it down last year.

Hypothetically, if some contracts of interest come up in the UK, and I do them through an umbrella company (rather than go through the rigmarole of re-establishing a limited, because I feel that the majority of stuff for me is still going to be abroad), could this attract undue attention from Hector? From limited to umbrella (or whatever the equivalent is these days) in 4 short years..

What I'm getting at is that there's a parallel between what I was doing via my limited and what I would be doing instead via an umbrella company. So this might draw unwelcome attention, investigations, etc.

You don't need to worry Xara. From HMR&C's point of view you have just moved from Director to Employee and pay your tax accordingly. The only thing I can think that you are concerned about would be if you drew dividends from your limited co but think that you were probably inside IR35???
