    International CRB

    Hello

I am a newbie contractor and recently secured a contract with an insurance firm in London. I quit my permie job as I was supposed to start the coming Monday. I've been told now that they are awaiting my International CRB check and will not let me start until then. The International CRB check results to come back could take upto 15 days, I have been told. My UK CRB and other UK checks have come back all okay. I have been working in the UK just 6 months shy of 5 years now. Before that I was working in Bangalore and did have some CC defaults which I eventually cleared. I am just getting nervous that this will that have an impact on my International CRB check. Does anyone have any experience in what this International CRB check actually entails. I am now jobless, quit a good paying permie position (don't even have much of a warchest to rely upon) to move into contracting and now this has left me in a tulipty pants position. Any ideas, suggestions will be much appreciated.

I thought CRB was the Criminal Records Bureau. Did you end up with a criminal record because of your debts or was it just that you took a while to pay them off? I don't think they are going to be too worried about some bad credit you had 5 years ago - the main thing they are looking for is to see if you have massive debts or a gambling problem and are at risk of being tempted to try and defraud them of large amounts of money.
Free advice and opinions - refunds are available if you are not 100% satisfied.

No, I didn't have any criminal record. Just some bad debt on my CC which I cleared up. I tried on Google but there is nothing which actually confirms what the International CRB is meant to find out. Thanks for your help thou.

Still can't figure out as to why this check is required, can appreciate checks for defrauding, gambling problems, etc but if a person have been living/working in the UK for a substantial period of time, surely it has to be checked against UK credit history.

I think what is meant by 'international CRB check' is that requests will be made from UK to 'other country' for vetting purposes.

As far as I know (and correct me if I'm wrong) but the Criminal Records Bureau is a UK entity, yes they probably share data for anti terrorism/money laundering purposes. I don't think there's a office somewhere specifically called International CRB. (But could be wrong?)

          Hi,

I am in the same position, but for a permie role, how long did it take to clear? I have been waiting 5 weeks now, I dont have any CC faults or any credit problems, but apparently indian checks are taking long time? Any timeline on that?

if you run a credit check on yourself

say from Credit Check, Credit Score and Free Credit Report from Experian UK

does it show any defaults.? even one from 6 years ago and you wont get the job.
