    Day 10

Well its day 10, and still no interviews.

Some of the what previously seemed like good opportunities seem to have disapeared into thin air.

I do have one very strong opportunity though- the last client I worked in my permie job is now recruiting, on the same project I worked on, with the same team

So I really hope to at least get an interview for this, plus I have already checked if there are any restrictions in my contract of employment from working for ex-clients and there are not.

Quick question- I know the guy personally who is going to be interviewing for these roles, as I have worked with him, and have had a couple of meetings with him. I wanted to send him an email just saying that I was really keen on the role, and happy to meet him at any time to discuss, but the agency advised against this. Any thoughts? I just assumed the agency want to make sure I dont go direct (which I wont) but I think it can only but help to show willing.

If you know the guy and get on then send him an email.

Agencies always say you can only contact the client through them but it's not always true.....

sounds like a good bet but why did you start contracting in the first place? is it just for more cash? if it is and you can get a good rate at your old place the role sounds ideal so yeah get in contact with your old boss and lay the groundwork, ignore they agent if you get the role they'll benefit if you don't it's not likely going to be because you showed willing so what they are saying is rubbish

The same team where this happened?

If so it will be interesting to hear how they react.

It was mainly so that I could have more control over what projects I work on and where I would be based. Basically I was fed up with the consulting lifestyle and all the travelling!

Regarding money, I would say if I do well, I will probably get paid about the same as what I did in permanent work. If I do really well, it would be a bit more. Cash wasnt really a motivator.

It won't help much in your case, but to others looking my advice is to stay in your cushy permie jobs forever, or at least until you land and sign something real.

If you have direct contacts, bypassing the agency is the best thing you can do money-wise.
