Two gigs at once?

Has anybody here tried this juggling act? I'm potentially in a position where I might be able to give it a bash. Would be working during the day at Client 1 and am trying to figure out how I could "work remotely" for Client 2 without upsetting either. Actually Client 2 might be aware of the situation but Client 1 would not....

Thoughts? Anyone done it? Anyone done it and got rumbled? Is it possible?

running a ltd? of course you can. make both clients aware that your company supplies to multiple customers. the trick is to create a working schedule that suits all concerned; one day/week/month on and one day/week/month off or why not go the whole hog and hire somebody to do the additional work?

I've done it a couple of times and it has worked ok for a while. The problem (both times) came when both clients wanted to step up the workload as they began to see what was possible. In an effort to please them both, I ended up pleasing neither.

It was damned hard work too.

The double bubble was lovely, of course, but I knew it couldn't last too long and it didn't on either occasion.

Great if you can make it fly, and of course it depends on the type of work you are doing. For me it was programme management and this kind of work doesn't lend itself well to dual working.

Been up to three recently. Had to give notice on one. All clients new about the others and I had started taking other client A's work on to Client B. etc while I was waiting for other work to be finished.

To be honest I'm down to two again, but managing it is a bit of a headache. I was doing Report Development off Oracle & BO at one client, BA and data modelling with Cognos off another and SQL Server, Remedy Admin and dev at a third.

What I actually found is, apart from the 'where and what am I doing today', the natural downtime you might get to concentrate on work between meetings doesn't exist, because each client is able to get it's act together on the days you aren't there.

If you can do it then go for it, but honestly I think a long term one contract place would be better.

My husband did that for a while and managed to deliver one piece of work in the evening and weekends. I saw that it did become exhausting for him but he managed it.

The client he worked for in the evenings knew the situation and were very flexible so hence the evening work. Maybe discuss it with them if you have a good relationship with them so the other client does not need to ever find out.
