    REQ: Work-from-home Web Designer (2 months +)

I hope this post is appropriate for this forum - apologies if not, new member. Yes I am a contractor, so this is in effect a sub-contracting job.

    The project

Our unique online community product was established 18 months ago and continues to evolve at a rapid pace, offering a range of social networking features including advanced flash-based photo sharing & printing, music sharing, blogging, instant messaging, chat rooms and more.

We require a freelance work-from-home web designer to join our team on a freelance, work-from-home basis for around 2 months initially, with potential ongoing work and a permanent position if desired thereafter.

    Who we are looking for

We need someone who is creative, flexible and self-motivated. You must demonstrate strong creative and technical skills in Photoshop, DHTML and Flash with an understanding of technical limits and requirements for building successful websites and other online communications.

Your role will be to work with our Senior Designer in delivering both Flash and DHTML content for the ongoing development of the site. This includes interface design, various graphic elements (logos/icons/buttons/banners), interactive flash movies (e.g. tutorials & demos), email layouts etc. You must be able to take a conceptual design all the way from photoshop mockup to a functioning webpage (ready for backend integration by the programming team).

Some designs will be within the current branding, though many will be from scratch so there is a great deal of scope for creativity in this role. Knowledge of usability principles an advantage as our product is quite complex but targeted at general consumers, so must be as intuitive and user-friendly as possible.

    Work environment

We do not have a central office and each of our team members works form their own home, so you must be disciplined (and happy!) to work on your own. The Senior Designer (SE London) will be in regular contact with you via email, IM, telephone and face-to-face meetings as required.

Our product is very dynamic and continually evolving with new features and marketing strategies. This means you should enjoy taking on a variety of different tasks and be ready to change tack at a moment’s notice. This doesn’t mean stupid hours and stress overload, just every day is different. Never a dull moment! Well, mostly.

    Essential requirements
    • Portfolio of active URLs demonstrating your capabilities and expertise, identifying your role in each project, timeframes etc
    • Minimum 4 years commercial experience
    • Highly proficient with Flash MX04, Photoshop CS, & DreamweaverMX04
    • Illustrator CS a bonus
    • Ability to hand-code DHTML incl. CSS (e.g. hand-edit in DW or editPlus etc)
    • Intermediate Actionscript
    • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
    • Understanding of current design trends and the importance of branding
    • Willing to contribute own ideas and improve existing ones
    • Cross-platform/browser knowledge an advantage

    Special Requirements

Please ensure you meet all 3 of the following criteria before applying:
    • You must live in London, ideally within 60min. commute to Greenwich in order to facilitate meetings with the Senior Designer (as mentioned above).
    • You need to own all necessary hardware and software (see above) and have a fast broadband connection (ideally 2Mb+) as you will be working from home.
    • Finally, you must have your own Limited Company. Otherwise we can’t pay you and that would probably be quite upsetting.

    Remuneration
Negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
Please email your CV with URLs and rate expectation to: jobs1-at-wprasek-dot-com

For the record, I *am* actually worth listening to

    ...honest...

It's a pretty groovy project in case anyone's interested, we're doing some really cool stuff with interactive flash slideshows (OK doesn't sound like much but we've got comments, tagging, search, resizing, cropping, colour balance/editing, ratings, prints & gifts, zip backups, auto-sharing etc) and now music sharing (custom flash mp3 playback widget with tags, search, album art, lyrics, playlists etc)

Next we're looking at video sharing and dating. Yes it's ambitious and constantly growing. All these media are displayed as interactive flash widgets embedded on a user's own homepage (subdomain of our site) - but in fact can be used anywhere you want, on any website, and ultimately as Sidebar gadgets when Vista is released late this year (allegedly).

OK I'll leave you all alone now.

You'll probably not have much luck here - from what I gather, it's mostly developers on this board.

I'm actually a graphic designer, and could probably help you out if it wasn't for the Flash...

It's a bit sad that you make a big fuss about working at home, and internet connections and staying in contact via email and phone, and then you say "must live in London".
Will work inside IR35. Or for food.

Or how about "must live in Mumbai", work from home, pay no tax, £5/hr.
