Contract Offer Withdrawn

So I posted just before Christmas that I had received a new contract offer to commence in Jan etc etc.

The agency rings me between Christmas and NYear to advise that despite being offered the role and just needing to finalise start date, the clientco was not given final approval to proceed from higher up and so is not happening anymore

Total aaf way of doing things - surely you seek the budget approval at the same time as the role is signed off to go to market ?

Not happy but nothing I can do - I just need to re-motivate myself to start looking again and the fun and games that goes along with this

Lad at my current client turned down an extension for a 'better' contract with a public body. Started new role and they pulled it after 3 weeks due to no budget (so he says).

Managed to get back on with current client. I'd have told him him tough tulip matey, made your bed and all that.

But there you go, eh?

Unfortunately that is pretty common these days, people seemingly interview for and offer roles without having got approval or budget for the required resource.

Shame about Javadude, that is pretty bad, had he a signed contract?

As for the OP, you need to carry on looking. Nowt all else you can do.

Why? It's a business engagement, not a romantic involvement. If he's good enough for the role why would you turn him down? Just because he smited you by leaving you for another company? As a contractor, is that not part and parcel of life?

That's because they did it before and it worked i.e. they got the extra person they needed.

In my current main contract the client was told that if they hadn't got the purchase order signed by x date then I wouldn't be providing my services to them by the agency.
