Rate based on number of CV's submitted

Saw this role on jobserve today...

Your work will be vital to the company and will be greenfield development.
The rates for these roles are indicative and based upon experience and the amount of CV's submitted.
I could imagine the phone call between the agent and the developer who ends up getting it...
the daily rate is £300, but we take off £10 for every CV received so you'll only be on £100 a day.

I'd rather go into some other line of work than deal with some of those agents.

Prolly a newbie... No-one with any sense (surely?) would advertise that popularity has an inverse effect on the rate.... Having said that, I've just implied that common-sense is a pre-requisite for employment as an agent... Can't be right surely?

Agree with BrokenGKey - it will be some new student drop out on their first week of work. I wouldn't say its a way recruitment agents are heading (officially anyway!).

Everyone has a range, this depends on a number of factors related to benchtime, distance, family etc. It's fine to compromise but don't mug yourself to get these kind of roles, you won't feel better for it.
I hope they get someone cheap who gets up to speed then bails as soon as a better/more appropriate rate) turns up !
