Thanks for all the responses. I kinda felt that commuting was a no-no.

I contract in Canary Wharf, been there about 6 months.
I tried a B&B to start with

Bus stop right out side with several busses so you can go from either Cutty Sark or North Greenwich - cheap rooms are on the small side. I did not mention a deal or anything so might be worth a try to either drive the price down or the quality up. On a sunny morning it is a nice walk through the park to the station.
I tried the hotels, quite pricey but did stay here once or twice. http://www.hiexpress.com/hotels/us/e...K-_-ex-_-lonlh
5 mins from Limehouse DLR station and so only a stop or 3 to work. Area is lousy but the rooms are decent, cool, clean and of a good size.
I did try looking at a few flat shares but did not find anything I liked
Rooms for rent Canary Wharf / Docklands flatshare Canary Wharf / Docklands house share rooms to let
I ended up being offered a room by a mate who lives in Greenwich.Last edited by bren586; 15 August 2010, 09:02."All around me I see chaos and confusion, my work here is done...."Comment

Is it still tulipe?
The last six months or so I did commuting from Canary Wharf to the City I used the river ferry because using the DLR and terminating at Bank had become unbearable.
That was two years ago, have they still not sorted it?Comment

I looked at getting accommodation on the Wharf itself. It was not cheap... averaging £100/night for a little apartment, but if it's a high-paying contract I'd go for convenience. The contracts I looked at were in the £5-600/day rate, and even after high costs would put me on something equivalent to working from home at £400/day... plus you have a London pad to invite the wife up at weekends

Apart from the joy of walking along the side of the Northern line and the escalator closure, at this time of the year you have herds of tourists meandering about, open mouthed.
Yes, still pants.Last edited by bren586; 16 August 2010, 10:54."All around me I see chaos and confusion, my work here is done...."Comment

Get in touch with the Holiday Inn Express, Limehouse (15 mins walk away) - I was staying there regularly and got the rate down to £65 per night (for a min of 3 nights per week) -- if you decide to stay in hotels and don't do a deal like this then you will be F*CKED when the tourists are out in force ... prices I've paid for that particular hotel range from £59 to £129 per night - summer its a right hassle to even get in there (or anywhere else for that matter) !!!!Comment

Does anyone else have difficulty resisting the urge to just start swinging at the map-wielding muppets who clog up the stations during rush hour?Originally posted by bren586 View PostApart from the joy of walking along the side of the Northern line and the escalator closure, at this time of the year you have herds of tourists meandering about, open mouthed.Comment
