first day I ever contracted a fellow contractor took me under her wing - gave me loads of advice - she said NEVER disclose your rate to anyone - not even fellow contractors its can and will cause trouble.
If a permie asks just say 5K a week plus luncheon vouchers !Comment

I have to say, I've never been asked what I'm on, and I've never encountered issues with permies goading me about rates / being a contractor.Originally posted by ContractorNW View Postfirst day I ever contracted a fellow contractor took me under her wing - gave me loads of advice - she said NEVER disclose your rate to anyone - not even fellow contractors its can and will cause trouble.
If a permie asks just say 5K a week plus luncheon vouchers !Practically perfect in every way....there's a time and (more importantly) a place for malarkey.

I realize now this was a careless phrase. I didn't mean for people to go off and start talking about Kylie's underwear.Originally posted by darrenb View Postare we just having a bit of fun exercising our imaginations?
What I am trying to establish, quite seriously, is has anyone been in a situation where they were set up by a client who was trying to discover your real feelings? Or by a permie who was just trying to gather material on you? Actually, which is more likely? I don't know, maybe the guy was just venting like lukemg said.Der going over der to get der der's.Comment

Think you are reading too much into it. Perms always moan and are very interested in your rate because they can see you doing the same thing as them and think - I could do that easy ! Clients will occasionally sound you out about going perm and might just be testing the water, asking about how you like it there or career ambitions.
It always causes trouble even if not officially and they can't keep it quiet, it's too good not to share and then you are in the spotlight, they will be seeing if you trip up anytime - 2 people can keep a secret, if one kills the other...Comment

That's the best policy. But also be prepared for the time when a flailing PM says to everybody in the middle of a meeting in week 1 of your contract: "And make sure thunderlizard pulls his weight because he's costing us £x00 a day".Originally posted by ContractorNW View PostNEVER disclose your rate to anyone - not even fellow contractors its can and will cause trouble.Comment
