    How do I get a P45

    I've tried searching but the stupid criteria is too short (how do you get round that?), anyway I'm fed up with sitting on my arse so I'm going perm for a while so I'm guessing I need to resign and get a P45.

    How do I go about this? Anything else to consider?

    Already planning me exit strategy, do you think negotiating a 1 week notice period into a perm contract of employment would set the alarm bells ringing?

    No experience of this, but whoever does your payroll would issue this, upon your instruction, no?

        Clippy is right - a P45 would be issued by the payroll department after you'd left employment. Nothing for you to do but hand in your notice.

          Most permie jobs I've had came with a 1 week notice for the first 3 months probation period....

                No you don't need to resign, anyway, what are you resigning from, I expect you're a company director with no contract of emploment to work for your Ltd.

                Just contact accountants and they'll get one issued to give the new boys.

                P.S. Note, I was told when they issue it they lodge a copy with HMRC. I decided not to go Perm in the end and the accountants were a bit miffed they'd have to cancel /ammend the one they'd issued.

                P.P.S. If the perm role you find is not offering enough training / knowledge / skill building potential to warrant you sticking it out for a reasonable period then jog on. Better to do low rate contract stuff instead surely?

                  I forgot to add to my original post that you don't actually need a P45 you just need to sign a P46 when you take on the new permie role.

                  You also need to tell your accountants to stop your payroll.

                  Yes your tax will be screwed however that can happen anyway regardless of you give them a P45 or not.

                  If you end up with an organised permie employer they would sort it out so you are on the right tax code but most can't be bothered so you end up being on emergency tax.

                  Also unless you close down your company you will have to do self-assessment anyway.

                  The only time it seems that HRMC doesn't like people doing self-assessment, if they also don't have have other possible income sources, is if HMRC have to pay someone back 3 years in a row.

                    A way of avoiding this is to ask HMRC to nominate "newjob" as the main employment. THey will then usually put the tax code on "NewJob" and issue a BR taxcode for the employment at MyCo.

                    Emergency tax is not generally a problem, since this is the normal personal allowance - but on a week 1 basis.
