0845 numbers

I've googled and am none the wiser..

There seems to be a wealth of companies offering "free" 0845 numbers, I'm wondering if anyone has used one to link to their mobile?

Am currently setting up my website and thought it might look a bit more professional than putting my mobile on it.

With the choice out there it's difficult to work out the wheat from the chaff.

How about a geographic number that points to your mobile?

About 3 - 4 years ago, I setup a non-IT business and used similar services.

IIRC, when I researched this most if not all providers didn't allow the forwarding of non-geographic numbers to mobiles.

I try to avoid non-geographic numbers myself (when calling from home) mainly because it prevents me from using my mobile.

Slight tangent, but I like Samsung's approach for their Technical Support line.

It is an 0845 number but alongside it, they have a note saying here is the geographic number if you are unable or do not wish to use the 0845 number.

Thought it was quite a refreshing real world approach.

Compare that to Sky TV who actively monitor Saynoto0870 and change their geographic numbers once they appear on there.

The thing I hate more than anything is that my doctor doesn't have a geographical number. I pointed out due to the small estate that is near them and the fact that their are lots of students in the area that they are making the poorer members of society in the area suffer.

OK I was just pissed off that the only times I've needed to call the doctor I could only do it from my mobile as the offices I was in blocked non-geographical numbers.

Just a thought here (with regard to SKY monitoring saynoto0870 and then changing their numbers.) At some point SKY will run out of new available numbers and have to contact (assume BT) for a new bank of numbers??

Knowing BT (as I do unfortunately) SKY will be waiting weeks and weeks for their new numbers!!

Non geographic numbers are not attached to any particular geographic location. The first of the non geographic numbers to be introduced were the 0800 numbers. They are also called freephone numbers because the cost of the call is borne by the receiver rather than the caller. 0845 numbers are also not attached to any particular geographic location, but they operate on a revenue sharing basis.

Have an account with Telecom, world £4 a month + the cost of the calls in, can divert to mobile number or landline you can login to your account and change it whenever you like and it also sends voicemail to email and you can set it to not ring out of hours it just responds with a very polite "the office is now closed please leave a message"
