What area of IT do you work in?
      Programme management orifice.

How are you finding the market at present?
I'd say pretty buoyant in Scotland at the mo.
Is it all in banking? Seems to be loads of PMO roles but 90% in banking.

Yup not much else recruiting up here.

PMO should be pretty transferable from other industries though.

          Tell that to the agents...

It seems that there a loads of Java jobs in banking as well. All paid stupidly high amounts.

Unfortunately, it is a bit of a chicken and egg situation. With out banking experience, you can't get in. But how do you get banking experience if you can't get in???

            AARRGGHH!!

Really? I would have thought even agents would recognise that.

Simple. Work through one of the consultancies. They don't give two hoots about your lack of so-called 'industry experience'.
The banksters and their apologists will create more and more hoops for you to jump through.
The consultancies : no pfaffing around - straight on with the job.

Call me stupid, but I don't understand what you mean by this?!?!

I'd love some banking experience, but not a clue how to get it!

No, you're not stupid. I didn't articulate clearly.

All of these banks use the facilities of consultancies large and small.
Starting with the big 4 management consultancies, big technology consultancies and so forth downwards.
Any one you care to mention will have/have had an agreement with the banks to supply services.
Get yourself onto the books of one or more of the majors and they'll bodyshop you out to the retail or investment banks or financial institutions.

Therein you get the banking experience you require. Same guy, different hat.
And I'm talking from experience here.

                    HTH.

It's just a shame that all the big consultancies aren't hiring, or they use ICT's/offshoring to get the job done.
