I'm struggling to see what the problem is - I spent 6 years in London, lived in Putney, worked at Mansion House, loved *nearly* every moment of it.
Me and a work mate biked to work most days, showered at work, had breakfast, it was brilliant. Middle of Winter when it snowed i took the District Line but made sure I left early and knew where to stand on the platform to be right by an open door to race in and grab a seat (had to beat some women and old people to it but I usually made it).
I loved my 3 month contract that went on for 4 years. Had a great time at work, some weekends I was actually looking forward to Monday.
I know what you mean about the zombies on the train, but just don't become one of them. I know it's a cliche but Life is what you make it - you *can* have a good time in London.
As for women standing on the tube while I'm sitting - it's called 'equality'
