    Agency - Have to use an "approved" Umbrella Company from their list

    Hi - just wanted to see if others have been "forced/coerced" into using an approved Umbrella.

    I've been in current contract for 2 yrs - Umbrella name has changed once before - and this was not an issue. Announced name change recently - put in paperwork and agency are now saying it's not on their approved list.

    Anybody else had this ? Can they force me to change to one of their approved Umbrellas over my current choice ?

    Worth mentioning that contract has 4 months left to run.

    Cheers.

    There are earlier posts asking the same thing. You may want to search for those to see what was said then.

    In a nutshell yes they can choose to do business or not do business with anyone they like. They can't force you to agree to use a different umbrella, but they can refuse to deal with them, so effectively you deal with one of their "approved" ones or set up your own limited company or you walk.

      Just say 'NO!' to brollies. Its simple.

        You could also try the following;

        'Due to the number of brollies that have failed recently, will you be willing to guarantee any loss of earnings should the brollie you are contractually obligating me to fail?'

        If not then tell than to go jump.

        You are in a position of strength in that you are already in there and under contract. Will they want to lose you and the gig to another agency?

          Yep, terms and conditions of business.
          What are you going to do??
          Walk away or accept their terms??
