How to deal with questions on 9 month Bench time..?

I am fed up with questions on bench period, not 1-2 months but 9 months bench time..!!

Not sure how to deal with it as both pimps and interviewers are asking same question again & again. I think some pimps are just ignoring my CV because of this bench period, they think I am incompetent..!!

Any one with long bench recently got success in getting an interview..?? Or even got job..? If so how thy handled these questions on bench period...?

    Thanks..

Luckily I've never been benched but, for those times when I took some months off, I just tell them I put my feet up.

Nothing more needs to be said...

It beggars belief. For 9 months, agents are unable to find you a contract. Then they start thinking that's a sign of something wrong with you. No, Mr Agent Man, there is something wrong with you.

Well..I donot have any other break in my CV. I am not convinced with 9 months tour/rest answer. 2-3 months may work in that way, but for 9 months it may not be a convincing answer. Also you might have been talking to the same agent so many times in that period..!

You may be right. My own experience is based on breaks of 6 months every few years...

Just bloody fill it in with something for goodness sake.

Training, Vocation, put a friends LTD company and get them to vouch for you.

I had 8 months out a couple of years back, it was a mixture of2 travel and volunteer work and of course I hadn't really started looking till a few months ago and I was looking for the right role".

When it came to being interviewed, they didn't even ask about the gap.

Put something on your CV that says career break, that way you don't get asked by pimps or clientcos.

Anyway no excuse for not being up to something to show for your time.

I've stuck VirtualBox on my machine and have been trying out different software evaluations and training kits.

Worked my way through Microstrategy (it's a free 30 day evaluation of their entire BI Kit)

and just downloaded Betas, for Windows 2008 Standard OS, SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008. All installed nicely within a VM. Im just working through the Microsoft Exams for SQL and learning SSIS.

You get 180 days free evaluation time at the moment with these.

I would then put that down on your CV.
