Are any of the jobs on Jobserve actually real?

I'm convinced that 99% of jobs on jobserve do not exist, and the same for most job sites.

Has anyone ever actually got a contract from one of these job adverts and if you did - who the hell was the agent? I'd love to give him/her my CV.

Every advert in Jobserve for which I appear well qualified for has some Vicky Pollard knacker of a dipstick on the other end of the phone.

I have previously landed contracts via Jobserve so there are bona fide jobs , over the past few years I have networked to find positions, current position came about from a fellow contractor who was approached for an urgent requirement, he wasnt available but urged the Agent to get in contact with moi.

A good chap indeed.

Been here for nine months, now another 3 months to go and looks like there could yet be another year on offer.

But I know how frustrating it can be, the more you want something the more elusive it becomes, before my current contract I had resigned myself to being an X IT person, so Nihil Desperandum Lotuschap.

We have never put a job on jobserve that has not been "real". Lukewarm jobs (where the client is wasting our time) yes. At £6.00 a pop we are just too mean.

Most of them are just phishing for leads and to get a huge bank of CV's. There are real jobs on Jobserve and others but they are in the minority. I find now that as everyone has my CV as I uploaded it to Jobserve that when a real job comes in they phone me.

Some of them are also agencies jumping the gun, they think a contract may be coming up at a client but don't wait for confirmation before advertising.

I treat JobServe as just doing a mailshot - most letters get ignored but it only takes one to get read and your off.

A frustrating part is when jobs are put out on Jobserve as Perm and contract.

e.g. you apply for a contract, but at the same time you know they are after a perm (cost cutting).

So you think, well, will I be shafted soon later on, and this will result in a very short term contract.

Contracting is uncertain enough without this extra dimension.

But, I suppose all is fair in love and war and at the end of the day it is business.

Another reason to up rates!

The more risk we are asked to carry, should result in higher rates.

Unfortunately, there are people who will sell themselves lower (people who can't see the difference between jam today and jam tomorrow e.g. pensions costs etc).

e.g. the extra income that they have (today) should really be going into their pension.

Many of the big five are only interested in bums on seats at the right rates - rather than skills, contribution and ability, bad for us and their customers!

Jobserve

Unfortunately in the past some have been guilty of placing jobs on jobserve that dont exsist but I fail to see the reason. You will only get candidates calling in and wanting to talk to you about the role and then chasing for feedback, which obviously takes time away from filling your real jobs!! I have real jobs to fill and a database with 400,000 cv's on so dont need anymore!! As dodgy said, at £6 a time (think you are being ripped off a bit! Would give them a call if i were you) it is not cheap!!!

Got most of my work through Jobserve. If the language of the job description is particularly non-descriptive and very generalised I often don't bother applying - I put it down to a ghost job.

Ever tried linkedin.com? You can find jobs through that, but it depends on your "network" . I've only just registered......seems v popular in Silicon Valley.....

I have had all 3 of my contracts (7 years worth) from Job Serve. Yes I do believe that most are real, though some companies might advertise both for permies and contractors and take only permies if they find enough.
