I am in a similar state - I have a 3 month role only 20 mins from home at £350 per day in a dull PM role, or the offer of a 6 month role with a 2.5 hour commute (done it before, not too bad!!) for £500 per day which ends March next year.
Last year I was benched early december till March and the market was awful - not sure if that was the recession or if it is normally like that? Bit worried that November is not probably a great time to be looking for a contract.....
Looking at the commute as being paid £75 or so each way would certainly dull the pain! I would go for the higher rate and longer contract personally. Not being on the bench in November could be worth a lot...
i think nov is a bad time to be out of contract. unless you want a nice fat xmas break. the only positives tend to be the jobs being touted as new year projects begin ramp up.
actually, any time of year is a bad time to be out of contract,
