    ContractorUK - Source for Contracts

    Hi All,

No doubt one for the Mods ?

Appreciate this is probably a no-no but from my experience of contracting many of my gigs have come from fellow contractors I have worked with.

Is it possible to use this site forum to try and find contracts out there with
fellow users of the forum or is that something we would want to avoid.

    Sure,

If you could just provide two references....

Sure things would need to be done selectively and intelligently but I wondered if it was a definite no-no - effectively use the forum for some initial networking then take the conversations offline to PM.

        That means either:

        a) becoming uk.jobs.wanted
Hundreds of people posting CVs and begging for work. Once the great unwashed hear about it, there will be tens of thousands of them.

        b) becoming yet another jobs list
Agents posting jobs. But without decent search / expiry / other tools.

I think the occasional "Any of you lot know UnderWare v6? They're about to advertise a role but if one of you" ... is plenty.

If you want people to know you are out there, LinkedIn is a far better networking tool; there is even the ContractorUk group on there!
My all-time favourite Dilbert cartoon, this is: BTW, a Dumpster is a brand of skip, I think.

          Sure I agree.

This is exacly what I mean, and I wonder why I don't see any of it on the site. Would never want to see the site inundated with the stuff.

Didn't know about this - thanks - I will give it a look.

I think Linked In would be a much better enviroment for serious contract role discussion i.e no anonymity and visabilty of peoples contract history and experience. At the moment there isn't a lot happening in the discussion group in Linked In - when I have found myself on the bench I have used Linked In in the past as part of my strategy for finding work. Having a ContractorUk group could make that type of networking possible on that site.

Thanks Bright Spark, you beat me to it..

That's exactly what Contractor Alliance was launched for, you list your skills and can privately message other contractors. It's absolutely free to sign up and network, so it's worth a try..
